Latest Maternal and Child Health Projects

The objective of the session was to give practical knowledge and assistance to nursing mothers on how to make healthy, natural, and cost-effective foods for their babies at home. The project was executed in collaboration with staff of Agege Maternity Centre, who also hosted the session.

Despite light showers of rain, the mothers arrived early at the hospital, and the program commenced without any hindrance. The event had about 50 participants.

The session kicked off with an insightful and comprehensive talk on childcare, immunization, and hygiene health by Rtn. Adebisi Ade-Onajobi Daniel, an experienced medical professional which set a tone for the rest of the event.

The food demonstration class was led by the staff of Agege Maternity Centre. Nursing mothers were taught how to derive essential nutrients required for their babies’ proper growth from commonly available staple foods. A practical demonstration was done using rice pudding, incorporating proteins and other condiments to enhance its nutritional value.

The class was highly engaging, with mothers participating actively. Due to the multicultural nature of the audience, Rtn. Abiodun Lasisi provided translation in Hausa to ensure all participants understood the content thoroughly.

At the end of the session, the babies were fed with the prepared food on-site, and some portions were taken home.

To mark the occasion, RC Agege distributed branded baby feeding bowls to the mothers.

We are proud to report that this project achieved the desired impact. It directly aligns with one of Rotary’s Seven Areas of Focus, specifically Maternal and Child Health.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the staff of Agege Maternity Centre, who were instrumental to the success of this initiative. Despite the ongoing industrial action by nurses nationwide, they honored their commitment to support this cause from planning through to execution.

Rotarians in Attendance included the Club President – Rtn. Femi Ogungbemi; Rtn. Lukman Salami (Secretary); Rtn. Adebisi Onajobi; Rtn. Bisi Kappo (Environment Chair); Rtn. Kunle Akorede (Project Chair); Rtn. Joshua Olajide (Publicity Chair); Rtn. Abiodun Lasisi (Youth Chair);
